1. Agreement and eligibility
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are a legal agreement between you and Lani Quantum Solutions, Inc., a Washington profit corporation (“Lani,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), governing your access to and use of the standalone Brief website and browser application (“Brief”).
By accessing or using Brief, you agree to these Terms and the Brief Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use Brief.
You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter this agreement. If you use Brief for an organization, you represent that you are authorized to bind that organization, and “you” includes that organization.
2. What Brief provides
Brief is a browser-based email productivity application. Depending on the features and permissions you choose, it can read connected mailbox data, organize and summarize messages, assess priority and spam likelihood, index information locally, draft replies, send replies you approve, and propose or perform mailbox organization actions you approve.
Brief is separate from Lani Prime and Lani cloud workspaces. The standalone product runs in your browser. Lani may change, suspend, or discontinue features, and may impose reasonable limits to protect users, providers, or the service.
Preview software
Brief may be labeled beta, preview, evaluation, or pre-release. Preview features may be incomplete, change without notice, lose local state, or produce unexpected results. Do not rely on Brief as the only copy of important information.
3. Connected accounts and authorization
You may connect only an email or AI-provider account that you are authorized to use. You authorize Brief to make provider requests within the permissions you grant and the actions you select.
- You are responsible for your email-provider, AI-provider, browser, device, and network security.
- You must protect account credentials and API keys and notify the relevant provider of suspected compromise.
- You are responsible for provider charges, quotas, and compliance with provider terms.
- You may revoke Brief through the provider and remove local credentials using Clear everything.
Brief does not guarantee that a provider will authorize a request or continue offering an API, scope, model, or account.
4. AI output and your decisions
Brief uses machine learning to produce summaries, classifications, ratings, recommendations, search results, and drafts. These outputs can be inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, misleading, or inappropriate.
Review source messages, recipients, attachments, generated text, and proposed mailbox changes before acting. Brief is not a substitute for professional, legal, financial, medical, security, compliance, or records-management advice.
Unless a future feature clearly explains otherwise and you separately enable it, Brief holds generated replies for your approval and does not send them autonomously. Provider-side organization changes require the permission and confirmation shown in the product.
5. Your data and local storage
As between you and Lani, you retain your rights in mailbox content, prompts, locally generated results, and other information you provide (“User Data”). These Terms do not give Lani ownership of User Data.
Standalone Brief stores working data in your browser profile as described in the Privacy Policy. You are responsible for maintaining any backup you need and for clearing local data before transferring or disposing of a device or browser profile.
If you select an external AI provider, you direct Brief to send the prompt and context required for the visible feature to that provider under your provider account and its terms. Do not submit information that you are not permitted to disclose to that provider.
6. Acceptable use
You must use Brief lawfully and responsibly. You may not:
- Access another person’s account, mailbox, credentials, or data without authorization.
- Use Brief for spam, phishing, harassment, fraud, malware, surveillance, unlawful discrimination, or infringement.
- Evade provider limits, consent requirements, access controls, or security measures.
- Use mailbox data to train a generalized or non-personalized AI model, operate a data broker, serve advertising, or determine credit-worthiness.
- Interfere with Brief, its hosting, or another user’s device or account.
- Misrepresent AI output as reviewed or verified when it has not been.
We may restrict access to hosted Brief files or OAuth credentials when reasonably necessary for security, legal compliance, provider-policy compliance, or enforcement of these Terms.
7. Third-party services
Brief interoperates with services controlled by others, including Google, Microsoft, Anthropic, OpenAI, browser vendors, and network or hosting providers. Their terms, privacy policies, availability, and technical decisions govern their services.
Lani is not responsible for a third-party service, its output, its processing of information, or changes that make an Brief feature unavailable. Links do not imply endorsement.
8. Lani and open-source rights
Lani and its licensors retain all rights in Brief’s branding, hosted service, proprietary code, design, and documentation. Subject to these Terms, Lani grants you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable right to use the hosted Brief application.
Components made available under an open-source license remain governed by that license. If these Terms conflict with an applicable open-source license for an open-source component, that license controls for that component.
If you provide feedback, you permit Lani to use it without restriction or compensation, provided we do not identify you publicly without permission.
9. Disclaimers
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, BRIEF IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, ACCURACY, SECURITY, AVAILABILITY, OR ERROR-FREE OPERATION.
Lani does not warrant that Brief will correctly classify a message, identify spam, preserve local data, draft an appropriate reply, perform a provider action, detect malicious content, or meet legal or organizational retention requirements.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain disclaimers, so some of the above may not apply to you.
10. Limitation of liability and indemnity
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, LANI AND ITS AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, AND LICENSORS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST DATA, EMAIL, PROFITS, REVENUE, GOODWILL, OR BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO BRIEF.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the aggregate liability of the Lani parties for all claims relating to Brief will not exceed the greater of one hundred U.S. dollars (US $100) or the amount you paid Lani specifically for Brief during the twelve months before the event giving rise to liability.
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold the Lani parties harmless from third-party claims arising from your unlawful use of Brief, your violation of these Terms, or your infringement of another person’s rights. This obligation does not apply to the extent a claim results from Lani’s own unlawful conduct.
11. Governing law and disputes
Washington law governs these Terms, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Before starting a formal proceeding, contact legal@lani.run so the parties can try to resolve the dispute.
Individual arbitration
Except for eligible small-claims matters and claims by Lani to protect intellectual property, you and Lani agree to resolve claims arising from these Terms or Brief through binding individual arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association under the rules applicable to the claim. The Federal Arbitration Act governs arbitrability. Arbitration will take place in King County, Washington, unless applicable law requires otherwise.
Arbitration replaces a court trial before a judge or jury. Proceedings must be individual and not class, consolidated, representative, or private-attorney-general actions.
Thirty-day right to opt out
You may opt out of arbitration and the class-action waiver by emailing legal@lani.run within 30 days after first accepting these Terms. Include your name, address, connected-account email or other identifier used with Brief, and a clear statement that you opt out of arbitration.
If applicable law makes a claim or waiver non-arbitrable, that claim will be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in King County, Washington, and each party consents to that jurisdiction. Nothing prevents either party from seeking emergency injunctive relief where legally available.
12. Changes, termination, and general terms
You may stop using Brief at any time. We may update these Terms by posting a revised version and changing the date above. When legally required, we will provide additional notice or request acceptance. Continued use after the effective date means you accept the revised Terms.
We may suspend or terminate access to hosted Brief resources for a material breach, security risk, provider-policy violation, legal requirement, or discontinuation. Sections that by their nature should survive—including ownership, disclaimers, liability, indemnity, and disputes—survive termination.
You may not assign these Terms without Lani’s consent. Lani may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets. If one provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue to apply. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement concerning standalone Brief unless you and Lani have another written agreement that expressly controls.
